Like many corporate headquarters buildings, LRS’ main campus in Springfield, Illinois reflects the origins of our company. While BMW’s landmark “Vierylinder” (four cylinder) building in Munich evokes an engine, and seven dwarves support the roof of Disney HQ in California, visitors to the atrium of LRS headquarters are treated to a different view: our IBM Z mainframe processor, storage, console, and related peripherals.

Behind the glass walls in the atrium of our main building sits the hardware and software that transformed LRS from a three-person IT consulting firm into a global provider of enterprise software used by the world's largest organizations. While we now offer output management software on nearly all major computing platforms—including the public and private Cloud—we continue to develop and enhance our flagship VPS® family of solutions for IBM Z, which represent a significant share of our corporate revenues.

So today, on international Hug Your Mainframe Day, it’s only fitting that those of us who work most closely with the mainframe give some love to the platform that quietly processes the majority of the world’s business data every day. And since every person who uses an ATM or credit card—or books an airline ticket, interacts with government, etc.— is a daily mainframe user as well, we encourage you all to follow our lead. Head over to your nearest Fortune 1000 company and ask them to lead you to the data center. You know what to do from there.
