Case-Details

A global auto manufacturer had relied on OpenText’s output management solution for more than 12 years. As the company migrated to S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, a cloud-based SAP solution, OpenText was not compatible with RISE with SAP and created the need for a new output management solution.

Challenges:

The auto manufacturer had considered switching to LRS for years due to its superior functionality but was deterred because OpenText worked, and they had higher priority projects that took precedence. The migration to RISE with SAP provided the impetus for change, as Open-Text would no longer be supported in the new cloud platform. The company needed a solution that worked seamlessly with all future SAP solutions, such as the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and SAP S/4HANA.

The Solution

LRS had been in discussions with the auto manufacturer’s SAP architect for more than a decade. With the move to RISE with SAP imminent, the architect recognized LRS was the only solution that could meet the company’s needs. The key was leveraging HP, a long-term vendor with the auto manufacturer, to streamline procurement and avoid lengthy delays. This allowed the company to quickly purchase the necessary products through HP, including:

  • HP Output Central Output Manager for 1,200 devices
  • HP Transform/PDF to PCL for 900 devices
  • HP PDDT
  • HP Global Fonts

Implementation and Benefits

LRS’s solution enabled the manufacturer to support SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition, and other SAP solutions like SAP BTP environments, ensuring compatibility and streamlining the migration process. The solution also separated management of output devices, allowing networking and SAP teams to operate independently, improving efficiency. Additionally, the Innovate Audit solution provided insights into print costs, optimizing resource allocation.

Security and Efficiency

LRS’s solution improved security by eliminating Windows® print servers and adhering to stringent security policies. In addition, SAP output would now be audited and tracked further enhancing security. The EOS Replicate solution simplified migration by enabling easy transfer of print devices without heavy SAP team involvement. LRS also added encryption features to address security concerns about password protection.

Auto Manufacturing

Challenges and Resolution

The implementation faced challenges with barcode printing and regional testing delays. However, once testing was completed, LRS’s solution addressed the issues, ensuring functionality. The auto manufacturer was also concerned about missing password encryption in EOS Replicate, which LRS resolved by adding encryption capabilities.

Conclusion

LRS’s output management solution ensured long-term support, improved security, and cost management, enabling a smooth migration to RISE with SAP. The partnership with HP expedited procurement, saving time, and facilitating a successful SAP S/4HANA transition. LRS’s technology provided the auto manufacturer with a scalable, future-proof solution, overcoming migration challenges and enhancing operational efficiency.
